Hyderabad, May 29 (RAHNUMA): Cyberabad police commissioner and SCSC chairman M. Ramesh on Friday unveiled an ambitious “Safer & Affordable Student Mobility” initiative aimed at reducing severe traffic congestion around schools while ensuring safer transportation for students across Cyberabad.
Addressing parents through a virtual outreach meeting streamed live on YouTube from the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate, the CP said nearly 2 lakh vehicles crowd school zones during peak dispersal hours, creating congestion levels even higher than rush-hour traffic in Cyberabad’s IT corridor.
The proposed Student Mobility Digital Public Infrastructure will function as a technology-driven, police-verified and community-supported transport ecosystem integrating RTC buses, private transport operators and monitored mobility services for students.
The system proposes route optimisation, centralized operational control, digital coordination, compliance monitoring and smart mobility management under the supervision of the Society for Cyberabad Security Council (SCSC).
In a major safety measure, all participating vehicles will be linked to CCTV monitoring through the Cyberabad Police Command and Control Centre. The initiative will also engage trained and police-verified gig workers, ASHA workers and Anganwadi staff as mobility supervisors and attendants.
A joint survey by Cyberabad Police and SCSC covering 526 educational institutions and nearly 4.1 lakh students revealed major gaps in the existing student transport ecosystem.
The commissioner said the model draws inspiration from London’s globally recognised Transport for London (TFL) system and aims to create a long-term civic mobility reform rather than just a temporary traffic solution.
The rollout will begin with student mobility data analysis, gate intelligence systems, parental awareness programmes and controlled route planning.
The meeting, streamed live on YouTube, witnessed participation from 5000 parents virtually connected directly along with educational institutions and various stakeholders. The meeting was attended by Serilingampally DCP Ch. Srinivas, IPS, Serilingampally Traffic ADCP Hanumantha Rao, SCSC CEO Naved Khan, representatives of the student mobility ecosystem and other police officials.
