LONDON(RAHNUMA): Israeli forces set up temporary checkpoints where they stopped and searched residents before withdrawing from the cities of Quneitra and Daraa in southern Syria on Sunday.
Two Israeli military vehicles advanced along the road linking the village of Saida Al-Golan and Quneitra, the Syrian Arab News Agency reported.
A separate Israeli force of 150 soldiers withdrew on Sunday from the eastern entrance of the village of Maariya in Daraa after establishing a temporary checkpoint, searching residents’ vehicles and minibuses in the area.
Syria has accused Israel of repeatedly breaching the 1974 Disengagement Agreement, which separated the warring forces after the 1967 war. It reiterated its demands for Israel to withdraw from the occupied southern Syrian territory, as well as from the UN demilitarized buffer zone, which Israel seized in December 2024 after the collapse of the Bashar Assad regime.
