Hyderabad, June 3 (RAHNUMA): Telangana cricket is set for a landmark moment as the inaugural TG20 Player Auction takes place on June 7 at the Princess Convention Centre, Ramoji Film City, paving way for the state’s first-ever franchise-based T20 league.
More than 1,300 HCA-registered cricketers will go under the hammer as eight franchises assemble their squads for the maiden season of TG20. The auction will be headlined by Telangana’s international stars Mohammed Siraj and Tilak Varma, alongside prominent domestic names, including Rohit Rayudu, Rahul Buddhi, CV Milind and Tanmay Agarwal.
Scheduled to begin on June 21, TG20 will feature eight franchises, 32 matches and 21 days of cricket action at the iconic Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Uppal.
The participating teams are Hyderabad e-Champions, Pranava Ranga Reddy Risers, Warangal Warriors, Medak Falcons, Anurag Nalgonda Knights, Karimnagar Diamonds, Palamuru Strikers and Anvita Khammam Aces.
Each franchise will have a purse of ₹60 lakh and can build a squad of up to 20 players. To strengthen grassroots cricket, franchises must include at least four district players in their squads, with a minimum of two district cricketers featuring in the playing XI.
The auction, to be conducted by veteran sports presenter Charu Sharma, will be streamed live on JioHotstar, allowing fans to witness the formation of the league’s first-ever teams.
HCA Cricket Operations Committee Chairman Ambati Rayudu and his team played a key role in conducting extensive open trials that attracted aspiring cricketers from across Telangana. The committee says “Mana TG20 Shuru” begins on June 21, with Telangana’s cricketing dreams ready to take centre stage.
V. Agam Rao, Chairman, TG20 Governing Council, said: “TG20 is much more than a cricket tournament. It is a platform created to identify, nurture and showcase Telangana’s cricketing talent on a professional stage.”
