
Bangkok, June 30 (IANS) India’s Ambassador to Thailand, Puneet Agrawal, met Deputy Executive Secretary for Partnerships and Coordination at the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), Shombi Sharp on Tuesday, discussing enhancing collaboration between the two sides, including by leveraging mutual expertise in sectors like trade, digital public infrastructure, renewable energy, and disaster risk reduction.
In a post on X, the Indian Embassy in Thailand stated, “Ambassador Puneet Agrawal received Mr Shombi Sharp, Deputy Executive Secretary for Partnerships and Coordination, Office of the Executive Secretary, UNESCAP, for an introductory meeting. Views were exchanged on enhancing collaboration between India and UNESCAP, including by leveraging mutual expertise in sectors like trade, digital public infrastructure, renewable energy, and disaster risk reduction”.
Earlier in April, the Indian delegation participated in the 82nd Session of UNESCAP based on the theme ‘Leaving no one behind: advancing a society for all ages in Asia and the Pacific’, highlighting India’s commitment to the 2030 Agenda and robust engagement with UNESCAP in Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) implementation.
“The 82nd Session of UNESCAP based on the theme ‘Leaving no one behind: advancing a society for all ages in Asia and the Pacific’, concluded today in Bangkok. The Indian delegation actively participated in the Session and contributed constructively to the deliberations, highlighting India’s commitment to the 2030 Agenda and India’s robust engagement with UNESCAP in SDG implementation,” the Indian Embassy in Thailand posted on X.
India and UNESCAP share longstanding relationship through India’s voluntary contributions to ESCAP’s regional institutions and India’s support for capacity development projects promoting the transfer of technology. India hosts the ESCAP Asia and Pacific Centre for Transfer of Technology, along with the Subregional Office for South and South-West Asia.
