LONDON(RAHNUMA): The US Embassy in Muscat commemorated the 250th anniversary of American independence and its historic partnership with the Sultanate of Oman on Wednesday.
The event took place at the Diplomatic Club. Various ministers, undersecretaries, dignitaries, and heads of diplomatic missions accredited to Oman were present, including officials from the Omani Foreign Ministry and representatives from the private sector, according to the Oman News Agency.
Ana Escrogima, the US ambassador to Oman, said that the fruitful cooperation between the two countries was built over decades and has contributed to enhancing security and prosperity in the region and across the globe.
A short film titled “From the Sea to the Stars” illuminated the evolution of US-Omani relations, showcasing key historic milestones in the bilateral relationship since 1833, when they signed the Treaty of Amity and Commerce.
The next milestone occurred in 1958 when the Treaty of Amity, Economic Relations, and Consular Rights was signed in Salalah. Following this, the US opened its embassy in the capital, Muscat, in 1972. The following year, Oman opened its embassy in Washington, D.C.
Oman was one of the first Arab Gulf countries with which the US signed an accord in the 19th century, according to the US Embassy Oman website.
