Hyderabad, July 26 (RAHNUMA): North Telangana is set for an economic and infrastructure overhaul following state approval for the prestigious Joint User Airfield in Adilabad.
In a statement here on Sunday, Minister for Roads & Buildings and Cinematography Komatireddy Venkat Reddy announced that under the leadership of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, the Telangana government has issued orders granting administrative sanction of ₹2,278.14 crore for the project.
The Minister said a total of 2,009.23 acres of land will be acquired for the project. Of this, 1,609.23 acres will be allocated for the Indian Air Force (IAF), while 400 acres will be earmarked for a civil aviation enclave, Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facilities, a cargo terminal, hangars, and future expansion.
He stated that the administrative sanction also covers the costs of all associated works, including land acquisition, diversion of existing roads, relocation of 765 kV high-tension power lines, diversion of streams, shifting of Mission Bhagiratha drinking water pipelines, and removal of electricity poles.
Describing the Adilabad Joint User Airfield as a strategically important project for Telangana, Komatireddy said it would be jointly developed by the Indian Air Force and the Airports Authority of India. The project is expected to accelerate industrial development, attract investments, strengthen cargo transportation, promote tourism, and enhance defence infrastructure in North Telangana. It will also generate thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities for local youth.
The Minister said the project has gained momentum due to the special initiative of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and continuous coordination with the Union Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Civil Aviation, and the Airports Authority of India.
He added that the State government will bear the entire cost of land acquisition as well as expenses related to the removal of all project-related obstacles.
Komatireddy said the district administration has been directed to complete land acquisition and the relocation of roads, power lines, and other infrastructure by December 31, 2026, in accordance with the government’s instructions.
Reiterating that balanced regional development is the primary objective of the Revanth Reddy government, the Minister said the Adilabad Joint User Airfield would prove to be a game-changer for the development of North Telangana.
