Hyderabad, July 26 (RAHNUMA): Minister for IT, Industries and Legislative Affairs D. Sridhar Babu has appealed to the Union government to accord priority status to Telangana under the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) 2.0.
He said Hyderabad has already emerged as India’s leading semiconductor chip design hub and the country’s foremost destination for Global Capability Centres (GCCs), making Telangana the natural choice for the next phase of semiconductor manufacturing investments.
Addressing the “Rising Bharat Summit – South Edition” organised by a national television channel in Bengaluru on Sunday, the Minister highlighted Telangana’s remarkable transformation into one of India’s most attractive investment destinations.
The summit brought together political leaders, policymakers and industry experts to deliberate on innovation, infrastructure, technology and economic growth in South India.
Sridhar Babu said Hyderabad has become a preferred destination for GCCs owing to its world-class infrastructure, abundant pool of highly skilled talent, investor-friendly policies and exceptional ease of doing business. He noted that the State’s rapidly expanding GCC ecosystem reflects Telangana’s ability to host cutting-edge technology industries and advanced manufacturing enterprises.
The Minister said Hyderabad is home to several of the world’s leading semiconductor design companies and has developed the strongest semiconductor design ecosystem in the country. With thousands of highly skilled engineers working in semiconductor design, artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity and advanced electronics, Telangana has already built a strong foundation to emerge as a global semiconductor manufacturing hub, he said.
“Telangana is already helping shape the future of the global semiconductor industry through its leadership in chip design. Recognising this strength, the Union Government should give Telangana due priority under India Semiconductor Mission 2.0 and facilitate semiconductor manufacturing investments in the State,” Sridhar Babu said.
He observed that extending appropriate support to States that have already demonstrated technological excellence would significantly enhance the success of India’s semiconductor mission. Giving Telangana due priority, he said, would accelerate India’s ambition of becoming a global leader in semiconductor manufacturing.
Highlighting Hyderabad’s growing prominence as a global GCC destination, the Minister said the city has emerged as one of the fastest-growing GCC hubs in the world because of its highly favourable investment climate.
“Today, multinational corporations across sectors such as software, aerospace, defence, pharmaceuticals, banking and financial services (BFSI), hospitality and beauty technology have established their Global Capability Centres in Hyderabad. This reflects the confidence global enterprises have in Telangana’s innovation ecosystem,” he added.
