Hyderabad, July 28 (RAHNUMA): Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Tuesday said the welfare of persons with disabilities is the true measure of a civilized and progressive society while addressing the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Sweekaar multispeciality rehabilitation centre in Secunderabad.
The Governor praised Sweekaar as a model institution providing integrated medical care, rehabilitation, special education, counselling and vocational training under one roof. He stressed that ensuring equal opportunities for persons with disabilities is a shared responsibility and called for building a more inclusive society.
Recalling the words of Lord Buddha that “Compassion is the heart of humanity”, the Governor urged everyone to uphold the timeless Indian ideal of “Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah, Sarve Santu Niramayah” and work towards building an inclusive society where every individual enjoys equal opportunities.
Shukla lauded the Centre’s outreach to rural communities and its role in training rehabilitation professionals. Citing India’s 33-medal haul at the Special Olympics, he said persons with disabilities can achieve extraordinary success when given the right support.
On this occasion, the Governor appealed to all sections of society to contribute towards creating an inclusive environment in which no individual is left behind on account of physical or intellectual limitations. He announced Rs.5 lakh financial assistance from Lok Bhavan to the institution for procuring essential equipment and assured continued support for its initiatives.
During the event, he felicitated the Centre’s management, doctors, teachers, donors and volunteers for their dedicated service. Among those present were Dr. P. Hanumantha Rao, President of Sweekaar Multispeciality Rehabilitation Centre; Dr. V.V.S. Sharma, Founder Member; members of the Board, patrons, donors, trainers, doctors and other distinguished guests.
