Hyderabad, Aug.6 (RAHNUMA): The South Central Railway (SCR) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay to develop an advanced analytical framework for railway track occupancy, yard congestion and junction capacity analysis.
D. Anjaneyulu Reddy, Principal Chief Engineer, SCR; Dr. R. Gopalakrishnan, Divisional Railway Manager, Secunderabad Division and other senior officials were present on the occasion. Professor Milind Sohoni from IIT Bombay and team joined the meeting through video conference.
The collaboration aims to create futuristic software capable of processing large volumes of railway signalling data to reconstruct train movements, identify operational bottlenecks, analyse detention patterns and improve safety monitoring and operational efficiency.
The pilot project will be implemented in phases, covering data validation, movement analysis, visualisation tools and safety metrics, with plans for future integration into real-time railway signalling systems.
SCR General Manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava said the partnership would help Indian Railways optimise existing infrastructure through data-driven planning, especially in congested railway yards where expansion opportunities are limited.
