Hyderabad, Sept.12 (RAHNUMA): Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao on Saturday called upon people to hoist the National flag on September 17 and participate in large numbers in Telangana Liberation Day programmes.
Addressing a seminar on “Telangana Liberation – The Role of Nationalists” organised by the BJP Telangana Liberation Committee at Abids Methodist Engineering College, Rao demanded that the State government officially celebrate September 17 as Telangana Liberation Day.
Recalling the role of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and the Indian Armed Forces in Operation Polo, Rao said September 17 marked the end of Nizam rule and remained a symbol of the self-respect and sacrifices of the people of Telangana.
He said the BJP would continue its campaign for official recognition of the day and promised that a BJP government would organise grand State-level celebrations.
Rao urged party cadres and the public to hoist the tricolour within their respective polling booth limits on September 17 and later gather in large numbers at Secunderabad Parade Grounds for the main celebrations.
Former Governor Ch. Vidyasagar Rao, BJP Parliamentary Board member K. Laxman, State General Secretary Vemula Ashok, Telangana Liberation Committee chairman Boora Narsaiah Goud and other senior leaders attended the programme.
