Hyderabad, Sept.12 (NSS): GITAM School of Core Engineering, Hyderabad, organised a two-day professional development workshop on “Machine Learning on Advanced Microcontrollers” in collaboration with SANSI RF and Communication Systems, providing 80 students with hands-on exposure to the emerging field of Tiny Machine Learning (TinyML).
Organised by the Department of Electrical, Electronics and Communication Engineering (EECE), the workshop focused on practical learning, covering machine learning fundamentals, TinyML, sensor interfacing, data acquisition, dataset creation, model training, deployment on microcontrollers and real-time inference.
As part of the workshop, students developed and implemented five practical projects, gaining experience in the complete machine-learning workflow – from collecting sensor data and preparing datasets to training models, hardware integration and real-time deployment.
Prof. Ramesh Vaddi, Director, School of Core Engineering, and Prof. Prasantha R. Mudimela, HoD-EECE, emphasised the importance of industry-oriented, experiential learning in preparing engineering students for emerging technologies in artificial intelligence, embedded systems and edge computing.
M. Naresh Kumar, Assistant Professor and Convenor, and Dr. S.K. Jhani Basha, Co-Convenor, coordinated the programme in association with the resource partner.
The workshop highlighted GITAM’s focus on industry-academia collaboration and future ready technical skills, giving students practical exposure to machine learning applications on resource-constrained embedded platforms.
