A day after the picture of a policeman allegedly roughing up a watermelon vendor went viral, state minister KT Rama Rao has sought an explanation on the incident from DGP Anurag Sharma.

The incident is reported to have taken place on March 15, when an Uppal traffic inspector was on VIP bandobust.

The photo was clicked by Sunny Kandi, and went viral on Tuesday, following which it was brought to KTR’s notice.

In one of the photos, the inspector is seen throwing a watermelon at the vendor.

Tagging the Telangana DGP, KTR tweeted, “Request you to take corrective action. Counselling for junior officers who have direct interface with people is essential.”

The Uppal inspector has been served a notice to explain his high-handedness.

Reports quote Traffic DCP in-charge, Rachakonda, Divya Charan Rao as saying that the inspector was provoked to act, after the vendor did not listen to repeated requests to move his stall.

However, action is still expected to be taken against the inspector.

“He had the choice to take action by issuing a challan. But he behaved in a high-handed manner for which action will be taken against him,” the DCP told Telangana Today.
