Hyderabad, July 1 (NSS): Ponugoti Chokka Rao, vice-president, All India Confederation of the Blind, (AICB), Hyderabad and general secretary, Development & Welfare Association of the Blind, T.S. (DWAB), Hyderabad, today said as an organisation working for the Blind and Disabled, we are happy about the reforms in Criminal Laws brought about by the Central Government under the new Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita Act effective from July 1, 2024. Under this new Law, if anyone complains about the Blind and other disabled people at the police station, the Blind or Disabled persons are exempted from appearing in person at the Police Station. The Police themselves will be going to the homes of the disabled and blind persons to pursue the case.
“We appreciate this kind of gesture by the government towards the blind and disabled and hope the blind and disabled will not misuse it. It is very unfortunate to see some of the political parties are opposing the new law citing the name of the act is in hindi and other such trivial reasons. Due to lack of proper laws for the past 75 years that there has been growing law and order issues in the country. With the new criminal law Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita in force, we are hopeful of seeing better law and order situation in the country”. (NSS)
