PARIS(RAHNUMA): Algeria’s state grain agency OAIC has issued an international tender to buy wheat, with a deadline for offers on Monday, European traders said on Saturday.
The tender sought a nominal volume of 50,000 metric tons, they said, though OAIC usually purchases much more in its import tenders. Shipment is required in March if wheat is purchased from Algeria’s main supply zone like Europe, traders added.
Algeria is one of the world’s largest wheat importers. The country has shifted in recent years from French wheat toward cheaper Black Sea origins like Russian wheat, a trend amplified by diplomatic tensions between Paris and Algiers, which have brought French wheat sales to Algeria to a halt since last year.
