Hyderabad, Nov.23 (NSS): Minister for Health Damodara Raja Narasimha has directed the officials to take adequate steps to ensure that all government and private hospitals in the State comply with fire safety norms.
The Minister held a teleconference with the senior officials of the Health department and reviewed fire safety measures in government and private hospitals.
Expressing shock over the recent fire accident incident in a hospital in Uttar Pradesh in which children died, Raja Narasimha stated that such incidents are painful and asked the officials to take precautionary measures to prevent such incidents from happening in Telangana.
“The officials should conduct inspections on fire safety in hospitals and prepare a report. The teams should be formed immediately for inspections. All major hospitals like Gandhi, Osmania, Niloufer and MGM should be inspected and the report should be submitted immediately.
Fire alarms and smoke detectors should be checked frequently,” he said.
The officials were also directed to examine the power supply system in hospitals and said that if there were old electric cables, they should be replaced with new quality cables.
“The hospitals should set up Do’s and Don’ts sign boards regarding fire safety and short circuit. The hospital staff should keep in touch with the fire station authorities and the fire safety drills should be conducted regularly. Moreover, a fire evacuation plan should be prepared for every hospital,” Raja Narasimha instructed.
