
Hyderabad, Dec.9 (NSS): Asha workers staged an agitation at the premises of the DME office in Kothi on Monday demanding fixed salaries of Rs 18,000 as promised by CM Revanth Reddy. They demanded that the promises made by the Congress party to the Asha workers before the elections should be implemented immediately. This led to tension at the DME office.
An argument broke out between the police and the Asha workers in this context. ACP Shankar, who tried to convince them, was surrounded by the Ashas. Following this, the police arrested the workers and took them into custody. In this background, an incident took place.
An Asha worker, who was in a DCM van to be taken to the police stations, manhandled Sultan Bazar CI Srinivas Chari. The police have taken serious note of the assault on the CI. Sultan Bazar ACP Shankar and CI Srinivasachari misbehaved with the Asha workers dragged them mercilessly. There was a heated argument in the process. Two Asha workers fainted on the occasion. The remaining Asha workers took them to Osmania Hospital. The doctors said the health condition of Santosh, an Asha worker, was critical.
The Asha workers demanded an apology from Sultan Bazaar ACP Shankar and CI Srinivasachari for misbehaving with them. They warned that the situation would be different if the police did not apologise to them.
They lodged a complaint in the National Human Rights Commission against Sultan Bazaar ACP K Shankar, CI Srinivas Chari for brutally assaulting them beyond the limits. Noted lawyer Rama Rao Immaneni requested strict action be taken against the police officers who behaved beyond their limits.
