Hyderabad, Nov.7 (NSS)Union Minister Bandi Sanjay today inaugurated ‘Immigration Check Post’ at Daranga along with Tsheringe Tobgay, and Assam Governor Acharya Laxman Prasad.

Speaking on the occasion, the Union Minister said India’s intention was to strengthen good relations with its neighbours. He also said the checkpost would improve transport facilities with the neighbouring countries and added that Logistics costs would also be saved. He termed it as a historic development between India and Bhutan. He said Business, commercial and service activities would be eased.

“With the launch of the ‘Immigration Check Post’, the multilateral relationship between India and Bhutan has been further strengthened and there has been a standardization of bilateral relations. India-Bhutan relations are built on mutual respect, cultural brotherhood and great trust. The friendship, cooperation and socialisation between the two countries are a strong testimony to our partnership. The partnership between the two countries is the foundation of cooperative security. It has expanded into key sectors such as water resources, power generation, information, health, cultural exchange, agriculture, space research and education. The setting up of the immigration check post is a symbol of India’s vision not only to provide transport and trade support but also to further strengthen ties with neighbouring countries,” he said.

He also said the Land Ports Authority of India (LPAI), under the Ministry of Home Affairs, would also provide modern infrastructure at the borders in line with international standards. “Similarly, it provides a comfortable, safe and efficient travel experience to passengers and merchants. Daranga is exploring digital avenues to create new opportunities in economic cooperation and social relations with its neighbouring countries through an immigration check post,” he said.

He also said the Land Ports Authority of India had provided state-of-the-art resources to revolutionise the border trade and enhance security and added that the land port operations would  be digitised with facilities such as online parking reservation, automated storage and ease of doing so through the Land Port Management System (LPMS). “This is not only enhancing operational efficiency, but also improving the safety of goods and passengers. The expansion of land ports is not restricted to just the road route.  The way has been cleared for multimodal connectivity. He said the aim of the Land Ports Authority of India is to connect railway and inter-state waterways to the road and enhance trade capacity with neighbouring countries. We are working with the aim of supporting land, railways and waterways in the future to ensure that goods and services continue unabated between the borders,” Sanjay said.
