Basic amenities lacking in tribal villages amid bureaucratic hurdles: Seethakka

Hyderabad, Sept.26 (NSS): Minister for Panchayat Raj Seethakka said the permissions from the forest department are becoming a hurdle for creating infrastructure in tribal areas and the government is facing challenges even to establish minimum facilities.

Seethakka attended a national conference on the PESA Act in New Delhi on Thursday. Later, speaking to the media at Telangana Bhavan in the national capital, the Minister recalled a recent incident stating that due to the lack of permission for a school building, the State government had to set up a container school in the tribal area.

“While permissions for mining and large-scale projects are granted swiftly, there is no similar urgency when it comes to providing basic facilities for the tribal population. Although the central government is providing funds through various schemes, the inability to utilise them effectively remains a significant issue,” Seethakka pointed out.

The Minister informed that she had raised these issues during the national conference on the PESA Act and said that Ministers from other States also echoed that they are facing similar problems in their respective areas.

“Many tribal villages still lack proper road infrastructure, electricity, and other basic amenities. These hurdles exist primarily due to delays in forest and environmental clearances,” she said.
