Hyderabad, March 4 (RAHNUMA): With two Rajya Sabha vacancies from Telangana set to be filled soon, Dundra Kumaraswamy, National President of the BC Dal and Chairman of the BC Reservations Sadhana Samnvaya JAC, has demanded that both seats be allotted to leaders from the Backward Classes (BCs).
Addressing a meeting of BC associations at Kachiguda here on Wednesday, Kumaraswamy said the moment offers an opportunity for the Indian National Congress to translate its commitment to social justice into meaningful political representation.
He pointed out that despite forming a significant share of the population, the BCs remain underrepresented in legislative bodies, with representation rarely crossing 15 per cent. “True empowerment is possible only when representation in higher legislative forums reflects the social composition of the State”, he asserted.
Kumaraswamy said nominating two capable BC leaders to the Rajya Sabha would be a substantive affirmation of social justice and inclusive governance. The decision would send a strong signal about the direction of future political inclusion, he added.
D.V.V. Satyanarayana, Ilaya Goud, Rajesh Ramana and other BC organisation representatives were present at the meeting.
