Hyderabad, June 3 (RAHNUMA): A significant financial relief has been provided to the family of Sonkamble Pramod Kumar, a lineman of Northern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Limited (NPDCL), who lost his life while on duty.
At a programme held at Praja Bhavan on Wednesday, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka handed over a ₹1 crore accident insurance cheque to the deceased’s wife and nominee, Sonkamble Swapna.
According to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) previously signed between Union Bank of India and NPDCL, employees maintaining salary accounts under the USSA-2/USSA-3 schemes are provided with personal accident insurance coverage of ₹1 crore. As part of this scheme, Pramod Kumar, who was working as a lineman in the Basara division of NPDCL, had opened his ‘USSA-2’ salary package account on September 23, 2024, at the Basara branch.
Unfortunately, he died in an accident on March 24, 2025, while performing his duties. Following his death, his nominee, Swapna, submitted the insurance claim at the Basara branch. The claim amount of ₹1 crore was credited to her savings account on May 30, 2026.
The swift settlement of this claim reflects the commitment of both the government and the banking sector towards employee welfare. It also highlights the importance and benefits of insurance coverage provided under USSA salary package schemes.
Senior officials, including NPDCL CMD Varun Reddy, Finance Director Tirupati Reddy, Union Bank CEO Ashish Pandey, Executive Director Amaresh Prasad, Chief General Manager Ravindra Babu, Nizamabad Regional Head Aruna Savita, Chief Manager Y.V. Raghav, and Branch Manager Vijay Kumar, attended the cheque distribution program and expressed their condolences to the bereaved family.
