Hyderabad, Nov.6 (NSS): To promote awareness about Telangana’s diverse bird species for future generations, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka unveiled the “Birds of Telangana” pocket guide at Praja Bhavan here on Wednesday.
This guide, compiled by members of Hyderabad Birding Pals (HBP), aims to educate the public about Telangana’s avian diversity. The core committee members of HBP highlighted the importance of this guide to the Deputy Chief Minister, who commended their efforts in conservation and awareness.
Adepu Harikrishna, President of Hyderabad Birding Pals (HBP), emphasised the significance and need for Telangana’s first pocket guide on birds.
He stated that the book serves as a valuable resource for learning about bird habitats, migration patterns, and conservation statuses in Telangana, helping students, nature enthusiasts, and various audiences connect with Telangana’s unique biodiversity. The guide includes 252 key bird species and will be distributed free of cost to students across government schools and colleges in Telangana.
Former DGP Tejdeep Kaur Menon, known for her efforts in preserving urban lakes, praised the special role of HBP in promoting birdwatching and environmental awareness. She lauded the group’s achievement in conducting over 490 free bird walks, which have educated both citizens and students on environmental conservation.
Menon also appreciated the contributions of over 30 HBP wildlife photographers who provided images for this guide. Expressing their gratitude, HBP members acknowledged the government’s support in encouraging youth towards birdwatching and conservation efforts.
