Hyderabad, Oct.5 (NSS): Former minister and Sanathnagar MLA Talasani Srinivas Yadav today said Bathukamma was a great festival that worships nature. He along with officials of various departments supervised the arrangements for the Bathukamma festival to be held on October 10 at Karbala Ground near Buddha Bhavan on Necklace Road on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, he directed the officials to make all arrangements to ensure that thousands of women take part in the event without facing any difficulties. He directed the traffic police to take steps to divert traffic so that motorists and people do not face any difficulties till the completion of the Bathukamma. Similarly, lights should also be installed at Bathukamma ghat in Hussain Sagar, where Bathukammas are immersed, he said while stating that a sound system with Bathukamma songs should be set up.
Water works officials have been instructed to take steps to set up drinking water stations for the convenience of the people, who will come for the festival. He instructed the officials concerned to ensure that the Bathukamma playing area and the surroundings of Bathukamma Ghat were clean. Yadav said Bathukamma was a festival that symbolizes Telangana culture. “For nine days, women celebrate Bathukamma with different kinds of flowers in a grand manner. We are making all arrangements so that women who come to Bathukamma, which is held at Karbala maidan every year, do not face any inconvenience and all arrangements will be made this year also,” he said. He recalled that after the formation of Telangana state, it was being celebrated as a state festival. He said that It was a matter of great pride for us that bathukamma festival, which is confined to Telangana region, was being celebrated in India and abroad.
