Hyderabad, March 24 (RAHNUMA): The BJP’s ‘Chalo Assembly’ protest demanding justice for persons with disabilities was foiled by police here on Tuesday, triggering tense scenes in the Basheerbagh area.
Led by BJP MLA Payal Shankar, a large group of protesters marched from the Basheerbagh flyover towards the Assembly, pressing for immediate implementation of promises made during the Assembly elections, including enhanced pensions and welfare measures.
Police, deployed in heavy numbers, stopped the march midway, leading to a scuffle with BJP activists. Several protesters were taken into custody and shifted to nearby police stations.
Addressing the gathering, Payal Shankar accused the state government of failing to honor its commitments and demanded immediate release of enhanced pensions to eligible beneficiaries.
He warned that the agitation would continue until the government fulfills its promises, asserting that the fight for the rights of persons with disabilities would not stop.
