Hyderabad, Aug.11 (NSS): The Wayanad District Committee of the Communist Party of India organized a visit to its flood-hit areas today. CPI national secretary K Narayana was the chief guest at the event. The danger areas in Wayanad were examined by him during the visit.
Speaking on the occasion, he said as many as 416 people had lost their lives in the area of the threat, including 47 CPI leaders. “After his visit to Wayanad, I am deeply saddened. The Prime Minister visited Wayanad district on Saturday. We appreciate and welcome him visiting the affected areas, but it would have been better if he had known what they wanted and implemented L3 norms and declared Wayanad as a national disaster along with it,” he said.
Narayana said 13 camps had been set up in the affected areas and added that they were being kept in them while noting that they are also providing whatever they want. He said they met them and asked them what they wanted while getting to know about their well-being. “Some of the things they asked for were a stove for lunch, a cooker, a mixie, an iron box to iron the clothes, and so on. We have asked our party cadres to arrange them,” he added.
AISF State treasurer M Sai Kumar, leaders Sadiq and Ayyappa, AITUC State vice-president P K Murthy, CPI Wayanad district secretary and IAL State members E J Babu, A B Chariyan and others participated in the visit.
