Hyderabad, Feb.16 (RAHNUMA): The elections for Chairpersons and Vice Chairpersons have been deferred in 11 municipalities throughout Telangana due to various local conditions. The municipalities unable to conduct the special meetings include Yellandu, Sultanabad, Ibrahimpatnam, Kagaznagar, Khyatanpally, Khanapur, Zaheerabad, Indresham, Dornakal, Jangaon, and Thorrur.
Officials have indicated that while the State Election Commission (SEC) has not provided specific reasons for this postponement, there remains an opportunity to hold the special meetings on Tuesday.
A circular from the SEC had outlined that special meetings for electing Chairpersons and Vice Chairpersons were planned for 12:30 PM across 116 municipalities and seven municipal corporations within the State. However, the proceedings in the aforementioned 11 municipalities have been postponed.
An SEC representative noted that the reasons for postponement could range from insufficient quorum and concerns regarding law and order to various administrative issues. Local authorities hold the responsibility to determine the timing of the meeting within the established timeframe.
The official further stated, “Should local officials fail to convene the special meeting on Tuesday, they must seek authorisation from the State Election Commission to reschedule it for a later date.”
