CM Revanth criticizes Centre’s discrimination against Southern States

Hyderabad, Oct.25 (NSS): Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has criticiZed the Union government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for showing discrimination against the Southern States in allocation of funds and projects.

Speaking at the ” The Southern Rising Summit 2024 ” programme,  organised by  ABP Network here on Friday, the Chief Minister addressed a pressing issue of the NDA government’s alleged bias against Southern States.

Highlighting the vital role of Southern States being played in the nation’s development, he emphasised that while both the North and South had benefitted during the Congress-led governments, the current NDA rule has marginalised the South.

“The Union government is showing partiality, providing limited support to Southern States compared to northern States. Prime Minister Modi’s administration has underfunded the South, even though these States contribute more in taxes,” he pointed out.

The Chief Minister further stated that despite the South’s higher tax contributions, they receive far less in return than States in the North.

“For every rupee the South sends to the Center, only 40 paise is returned, whereas States like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar receive more substantial returns, at 7 and 6 rupees, respectively, per rupee contributed. This stark disparity suggests the Union government’s indifference toward the South, possibly due to PM Modi’s Northern background,” he argued.

Revanth Reddy also remarked on the departure from the previous tradition, upheld by Congress, of balancing power between regions.

“The past Congress governments at the  Centre would elect a President from the South if the Prime Minister was from the North, leading to appointments like Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy and APJ Abdul Kalam as Presidents from the South. However, under the NDA government, this balance has been disregarded. Instead, the focus remains solely on securing power rather than ensuring equitable development across all States,” Revanth Reddy said.

The Chief Minister further informed that the State Government will  develop Bapu Ghat as the Center of Gandhi Ideology at international level.

“The Bapu Ghat will be established in such a way that  the city of  Hyderabad draw the world attention. The proposed project will be developed at the confluence of Isa and Musa rivers.  On the line of Sardar Patel statue, the giant Gandhi statue will be installed at the Bapu Ghat,” Revanth Reddy disclosed.

The Chief Minister questioned why BJP is opposing Musi Rejuvenation project and the development of Bapu Ghat and said that as Gandhi’s descendants, the Congress government would develop Bapu Ghat at international level.
