New Delhi, July 28 (NSS)Union Minister Kishan Reddy today asked the State government whether it did not want power from Ramagundam-based NTPC. He wrote an open letter to the State government on the issue and alleged that there was no response on the issue despite writing several letters to avail the power from NTPC and added that the State government was not cooperating with the Centre on the issue.

“In line with the growing demand for electricity across the country, the Central government was making all efforts to increase power production. As part of this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi government approved a project to set up super thermal power plants at Ramagundam in Peddapalli district of Telangana to generate 4,000 MW of power. As part of this, in the first phase, two power plants with a capacity of 800 MW have been completed under the aegis of NTPC and made available to the public. These two power projects have been taken up at a cost of Rs 10,598.98 crore. The first 800 MW power plant was dedicated to the nation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 3, 2023 and the second 800 MW power plant on March 4, 2024.

Of the 1600 MW project, 85% of the power is being used for Telangana purposes. Of the 4,000 MW project, the remaining 2,400 MW project will also be commissioned soon. The Centre wants to provide electricity security in the State. The State Electricity Distribution Company (TSTRANSCO) needs to enter into a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with NTPC . It is only after this that NTPC will start work on setting up the plants and making adequate arrangements for coal availability. There has been no response.
