Congress MLC urges PM Modi to issue ordinance on BC reservations

Hyderabad, Oct.10 (NSS): Congress MLC Jeevan Reddy has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to issue a special ordinance to ensure reservations for socially and economically backward classes in local body elections.

He emphasised that the Prime Minister  should legalise these reservations and stated that the responsibility to grant legal status to SC categorisation rests with the central government.

Speaking to the media at the Congress Legislative Party ( CLP) media hall here on Thursday, Jeevan Reddy said the Telangana government was committed to implement the Supreme Court’s decision regarding SC categorisation and said that Telangana was the only State in the country to have taken a decision on SC categorisation.

The State government also established a one-member committee led by a retired High Court judge. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has issued orders for the report to be submitted within two months, he reminded.

Jeevan Reddy noted that the Telangana government had issued the DSC notification even before the Supreme Court’s decision, but due to a technical issue, reservations could not be implemented in the recruitment process. However, the Chief Minister has clarified that all future recruitments will implement reservations, Jeevan Reddy said.

He also suggested Manda Krishna Madiga to lead a national-level fight for SC reservations across the country and said that to ensure rights for socially backward communities based on population, the constitutional amendments are necessary.
