An elderly couple in Telangana’s Siddipet district were set ablaze by an angry mob on Thursday for allegedly practising black magic. The incident occurred in Dubbak, and the victims have been identified as K Sudarshan (56), and his wife K Rajeswari (52). The duo suffered severe burn injuries and were rushed to the hospital.
According to PTI, the couple’s kin alleged that they practised black magic, and also held them responsible for problems faced by their relatives.
The police suspects that Sudarshan’s brother, K. Srinivas, incited the mob against the couple.
The husband and wife were tied to a pole opposite their house and beaten up mercilessly by relatives and locals. Later, they poured kerosene on the couple and set them on fire, Srinivas, Sub-Inspector at Bhoompally Police Station told PTI.
The police rushed to the spot to rescue the couple after Sudarshan’s son alerted the cops.
The injured couple were rushed to Dubbak government hospital and later shifted to Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad.

A similar incident took place in 2015, when a man was beaten to death by locals at Muppireddypally in Toopran in Medak District after locals accused him of practicing black magic.

In 2015, as many as 14 people were reportedly killed for practising witchcraft.
