CRACKDOWN ON FAKE ‘PRESS’ & HUMAN RIGHTS STICKERS ON VEHICLES IN TELANGANA

Hyderabad, Jan26 (RAHNUMA): The state transport department has launched a strict enforcement drive against the unauthorized display of “Press, Advocate, Human Rights-related titles, government emblems, flags, symbols and logos” on vehicles across Telangana.

According to a circular issued by the Transport commissioner, following a Karnataka High Court judgment dated April 4, 2025, all unauthorized symbols displayed in violation of Rules 50 and 51 of the Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989 and Regulation 36 of the Motor Vehicles (Driving) Regulations, 2017 must be removed immediately.

The circular clearly states that ‘only media personnel accredited by the Information and Public Relations (I&PR) department are permitted to use the term “Press”, and it must not be displayed on registration plates’. Unauthorized use will be treated as impersonation.

District Public Relations Officers (DPROs) have been instructed to give wide publicity to the enforcement drive and curb misuse of press symbols by unauthorised individuals.
