DANA KISHORE ASSURES FAIR RELOCATION FOR ALL MUSI RIVERFRONT OUSTEES

Hyderabad, Sept.28 (NSS): M. Dana Kishore, Principal Secretary, Municipal Administration & Urban Development (MA&UD) and Managing Director of the Musi Riverfront Development Corporation has assured the displaced families of the Musi Riverfront project that no injustice will be done to anyone.

Speaking to the media at Secretariat here on Saturday, Dana Kishore along with  HYDRA Commissioner Ranganath emphasised the government’s commitment to safeguarding the welfare of Musi River residents.

He explained that Hyderabad’s current population exceeds one crore, and the Musi River cleanup project has been initiated to mitigate flood risks in the city.

Dana Kishore pointed out that it is the local people who suffer the most during floods, which is why this project is crucial.

He also stated that steps have been taken to protect significant structures in the city and to purify the sewage flow. The project aims to ensure clean water flows through the Musi river by 2026, which will boost agriculture in the region. Additionally, Kishore mentioned plans to visit affected areas with local MLAs to oversee the process.

Comparing the situation to other countries, where rivers are well-maintained and aesthetically pleasing, Dana Kishore stated that Hyderabad’s representatives will be taken to observe projects like Seoul’s river restoration efforts. He emphasized that a project to purify the water in the Musi River is already underway.

“The State government is going to spend Rs.3,800 crore for cleaning lakes around Hyderabad. In addition to this, Rs.10,000 crore will be spent on improving the sewage system. These efforts are part of a comprehensive master plan set to begin soon,” he disclosed.

The Managing Director of the Musi Riverfront Development Corporation assured that no work on the Musi river project would commence until all families affected by the project are relocated.

“Self-help groups are being established with the women living along the riverbed, and 10,000 houses have been identified for relocation to 14 different locations. Special centers have been set up to provide counseling and support to those who are mentally distressed due to the displacement. Moreover, health desks have been established in 23 locations, with all necessary officials present to address concerns. So far, 50 families have been relocated, and another 200 are being shifted today. Each family is being provided with homes worth Rs.20-30 lakhs, and the process is being conducted lawfully and with care,” he disclosed.

Dana Kishore further stated that there are 15,000 double-bedroom homes available for relocation and plans for East and West corridors along the riverfront are expected to boost the city’s development, reducing travel times and creating business hubs.

The Musi River project will preserve the city’s heritage and enhance its natural resources, Kishore added.
