
Hyderabad, Oct.9 (NSS): On credible information, Drugs Control Administration officials, on October 8, 2024 raided the premises of a quack Gurram Sadanandam, at Kashibugga, Warangal, who was claiming himself as a ‘Rural Medical Practitioner’ and practicing medicine without proper qualification at his clinic ‘Suhana First Aid Centre’.
During the raid, DCA officials detected huge stocks of medicines found stocked at the premises without any drug license. 21 varieties of medicines, including antibiotics, steroids, anti-histaminic drugs, and so on were found stocked at the premises. DCA officials seized the stock, worth a total of Rs. 10,000 during the raid.
DCA officials detected several ‘antibiotics’ viz. Cefixime, Gentamycin at the clinic. Indiscriminate sale of antibiotics, by unqualified persons may have disastrous consequences on the health of rural public, including emergence of ‘Antimicrobial Resistance’. Officials also found ‘steroids’ viz. Dexamethasone at the clinic of the quack. Misusing steroids can have serious health consequences, including immune system suppression, hormonal imbalances, muscle and bone weakness, cardiovascular problems, and psychological effects. The indiscriminate use of steroids poses significant risks to public health.
- Aravind Kumar, Drugs Inspector, Warangal carried out the raid under the supervision of Dr G. Rajyalakshmi, Assistant Director, Warangal. DCA officers lifted the samples for analysis. Wholesalers/Dealers who supply medicines to such unqualified persons, who are stocking and selling drugs without a drug license, are also punishable under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, and stringent action shall be taken against such Wholesalers/Dealers. Stocking drugs for sale without a drug license is punishable under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, with imprisonment for up to five years.
