
Hyderabad, Feb.19 (RAHNUMA): The fourth edition of the Telangana State Police Sports and Games Meet–2026 was inaugurated with ceremonial splendour at the Cyberabad police parade grounds in Hyderabad on Thursday, marking a significant occasion in the state police calendar and reinforcing the commitment of the force towards fitness, discipline and collective professional excellence.
Telangana Director General of Police B. Shivdhar Reddy inaugurated the sports meet by lighting the torch presented by Cyberabad Police Commissioner Dr. M. Ramesh.
Addressing the participants, the DGP commended the force for its exemplary dedication in discharging multifaceted responsibilities, including security arrangements for international summits, major sporting events, election duties and large-scale public congregations.
He emphasised that engagement in sports is integral to maintaining physical endurance, mental resilience and professional excellence. Highlighting the values of teamwork, leadership and discipline fostered through competitive sport, he underscored that sportsmanship and unity transcend the pursuit of medals.
The DGP also called for enhanced participation of women personnel across all sporting disciplines, reiterating the department’s commitment to inclusive representation.
Cyberabad Police Commissioner Dr. M. Ramesh stated that the meet has drawn participation from 2,532 athletes representing all 33 districts of Telangana, including 300 women personnel.
Competitions are being conducted across 31 sporting disciplines, with 14 events exclusively earmarked for women, he said.
Ramesh further announced that Telangana will host the forthcoming All India Police Football Tournament next month, reflecting the State’s growing stature in police sports. He acknowledged the support extended by various departments and institutions in facilitating infrastructure and logistics for the event.
Inspector General of Police (P&L, Sports & Welfare), Dr. Gajarao Bhupal, highlighted the achievements of Telangana police athletes at national and international forums and informed that distinguished sportspersons were felicitated during the ceremony.
He reiterated the State government’s incentive framework for medal winners at national competitions, including cash rewards and service increments, aimed at fostering excellence within the force.
The meet has witnessed enthusiastic participation from various zones, commissionerates and specialised units, including TGSP-I, TGSP-II, Greyhounds, OCTOPUS, Intelligence, CID, IT & Communications, Ministerial Staff and TGPA, reflecting the widespread engagement of the department.
Subsequent to the inaugural proceedings, the DGP witnessed a volleyball match and interacted with students of the Young India Police School.
In conjunction with the sporting events, a police welfare and wellness expo was organised at the Commissionerate premises. The expo features stalls dedicated to health care, nutrition, fitness equipment, organic products and innovative policing technologies. The exhibition will remain open to police families and visitors until Saturday.
