Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University will organise “Social Empowerment Fest”

Hyderabad, April 5 (RAHNUMA): Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU) paid rich tribute to former Deputy Prime Minister Babu Jagjivan Ram at its campus on Sunday. Prof. Ghanta Chakrapani, Vice-Chancellor; Dr. LVK Reddy, Registrar, Dr. Banoth Dharma, SC/ST Cell Liaison Officer, Representatives of various services association Kantham Prema Kumar, Viswanath, Bharat Reddy, and N.C. Venu Gopal, all the Directors, Deans, Head of the Branches, Representatives of various services association were participated in the program.

Prof. Ghanta Chakrapani, Vice-Chancellor and Dr. LVK Reddy, Registrar stated that the University has decided to organize “Social Empowerment Week” celebrations to mark the birth anniversaries of great personalities who provided direction for the upliftment and educational advancement of the marginalized people of India, as well as for the nation’s unity and integrity. He noted that these celebrations would commence with the birth anniversary of former Deputy Prime Minister Babu Jagjivan Ram and conclude with the birth anniversary programs of the Architect of the Indian Constitution Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. Among the great personalities who strove for equal opportunities and the empowerment of marginalized sections in India a land historically marked by various inequalities—Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, Babu Jagjivan Ram, and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar stand as the foremost figures. It was noted that while Jyotiba Phule initiated social justice and empowerment as a movement, Ambedkar constitutionalized these principles, thereby striving to transform the very fabric of this nation. It was further stated that both these leaders utilized education as their primary instrument in their efforts to instill self-confidence, dignity, social standing, and empowerment within the marginalized sections of society.

As part of “Social Empowerment Week” celebrations, a series of events have been organized, including birth anniversary commemorations of eminent personalities, lectures, panel discussions, seminars, literary gatherings and cultural programs.

April 5 : Babu Jagjivan Ram’s birth anniversary

April 6: Babu Jagjivan Ram lecture on “Jagjivan Ram’s Role in the Development of Modern India”

April 7 : A three-day art camp on “Art for Social Justice”

April 8 : Seminar on “Reservations – Democracy – Challenges”

April 9 : Unveiling of Professor G. Ram Reddy’s statue (at the Founders’ Forum)

April 10: National seminar on “Economic Reforms and the Indian Constitution: Conflicts, Contradictions, and the Way Forward” Justice B. Sudarshan Reddy will participate as the Chief Guest in the seminar.

April 11 : Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Memorial Lecture and a screening of the Telugu film on ‘Phule’ in

the evening, a Book Discussion on “Ambedkar-1” Prajaswamika Rachayithrula Vedika” will take place.

April 13: Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Memorial Lecture; and

April 14: As part of the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Birth Anniversary celebrations a floral tribute will be

paid to the portrait of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, followed by Launching of Key Digital Empowerment Initiatives – BRAOU 2.0.

Dr. Yogita Rana, Secretary Higher Education, Devasena, Commissioner Collegiate Education, BRAOU alumni Jyothi Reddy, Chairperson, Jyothi Reddy Foundation will participate in this program. Distribution of Jyoti Reddy Foundations Fellowships to Adivasi & Transgender Learners under Samatha Fellowships Scheme.
