Author: ARAB NEWSThu, 2017-03-16ID: 1489657305161273700JEDDAH: Dr. Soliman Fakeeh Hospital (DSFH) Fusion scored a double following a winless start when its men’s and women’s teams beat their opponents during the third week actions in the 3rd Conference Kalayaan Volleyball Open Cup 2017 at Trio Ranch & Country Club on the outskirts of Jeddah.DSFH’s women’s team set the tone of the day by beating Bader International School in Jeddah in straight sets 25-13, 25-20.The victory gave the Fusion ladies an even 1-1 win-loss card in the round robin competition where the top four teams out of the six entered will advance to the semifinals.After consecutive defeats to start its campaign, the Fusion men took some doing before disposing of Pusong Pinoy Buhay Jeddah Warriors 25-19, 25-21 in the fifth game.The Fusion men’s squad went 1-2 in the team standings while sending PBB Warriors to their fourth straight defeat.The third week session also saw International Medical Center (IMC) and King Abddulaziz Medical City (KAMC) maintain their perfect records in the men’s and women’s divisions at identical 3-0 respectively. The IMC spikers had little trouble in taking down Bader Int’l School 25-16, 25-19 in the second game, as they stayed on collision course with defending men’s champion Jeddah Blue Spikers, a 25-13, 25-18 winner in the third game against PBB Warriors.With IMC and Blue Spikers (2-0) both unbeaten thus far, the No. 1 spot for the semifinals is expected to be contested by these sides and possibly even the men’s championship crown.The KAMC ladies opened its two-game schedule on the day with a 21-25, 25-20,15-7 victory over IMC in the fourth game.They then returned to the court after the fifth game to beat Volleyball Stars in another three-set struggle 21-25m 25-22, 15-10 in the nightcap.The week’s Best Player of the game winners were: Women’s division — Cristy S. Mercado (Dr. Soliman Fakeeh Hospital), Gina Alanguilan (KAMC Lady Spikers) and Romelyn B.
