Family planning Association to sensitise one lakh women about cervical cancer

Hyderabad, July 27 (NSS): The chairman of the Family Planning Association Dr Prabhavati today said one lakh young women across India would be made aware of cervical cancer.

Addressing media persons at her office on Saturday to mark the completion of 75 years of Family Planning Association, she said the FP association was formed in 1949 and had been serving in Hyderabad since 1951. “Initially, we conducted awareness programmes on family planning, today we are conducting awareness programmes on contraception, easy methods of abortion, child rearing, nutrition, sexual health, HIV, syphilis and other infectious diseases. In rural areas, people are using safe and unsafe methods to eliminate unnecessary pregnancies and they are also being made aware of safe abortions”.

She disclosed that in India, a woman dies every five minutes due to lack of proper awareness on cervical cancer. Especially in women, we are creating widespread awareness on the risk of cervical cancer,” she said. She also said that girls aged between 9 and 15 years should be given two doses each at the duration of six years and added that the prescribed doses can be administered even after marriage along with frequent screening and pap smear tests. She said currently, g9 vaccine can prevent colon and anal cancer.

Later, the brochures related to the family planning association’s programmes were unveiled by the association’s general manager Dr Renu Kapoor, gynecologist Dr Jamuna Devi and members Suhas Rao.
