
Vikarabad, Nov.11 (NSS): The public opinion program on the pharma village at Laggichar in Vikarabad district has turned tense today. District Collector Prateek Jain was attacked by a farmer. The farmers protested against the pharma city. Stones were pelted at the cars of the Collector and officials. Three vehicles were damaged in the farmers’ attack.
The officials are in the process of acquiring 3,000 acres of land to set up the pharma city in three villages of Laggicharla, Polepalli and Heekampeta in Kodangal assembly constituency of Vikarabad district. In this background, many farmers have voluntarily given away the lands. However, the authorities held a referendum in Laggicharla village first. The officials tried to hold a temporary meeting two kilometres away from the village. However, farmers and villagers objected to being away from the village.
The District Collector Prateek Jain, revenue officials and police reached the village and tried to hold the referendum. In the meantime, the anxiety began. Collector Prateek Jain came from behind and hit him on the shoulder. So he stepped forward. In the process, the situation became tense. An argument broke out between the villagers and the officials. The villagers intensified their agitation. Three cars belonging to officials were damaged. The police immediately alerted the district Collector from the clutches of the villagers and shifted him to a safer place.
