FGG opposes GHMC Corporators’ study tour at end of term; calls it waste of public funds

Hyderabad, Dec.30 (RAHNUMA): The Forum for Good Governance (FGG) has urged the Telangana government not to approve the proposed study tour of 145 GHMC corporators, stating that it serves no public purpose and amounts to squandering taxpayers’ money.

In a representation to the Principal Secretary of Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department, FGG president M. Padmanabha Reddy pointed out that the Standing Committee of GHMC approved the study tour on December 29, 2025, even though the term of the corporators ends in February 2026.

Reddy said that by the time the corporators return from the tour, there would be hardly any time left for them to apply the knowledge gained, rendering the exercise meaningless. He argued that the proposed tour would neither benefit the people of Telangana nor the citizens of Hyderabad.

Drawing a parallel with the government service rules, FGG noted that bureaucrats with less than one year of remaining service are generally not permitted to go on study tours, as they lack sufficient tenure to put the learning into practice. The same principle, FGG said, should apply to elected representatives as well.

FGG has requested the government to intervene and stop the tour, terming it an avoidable expenditure with no public interest involved.
