“First Recognition, Then Reservation”: Kavitha tears into BJP over “Caste Census Scam”

Hyderabad, Jan.29 (RAHNUMA): Telangana Jagruthi founder K. Kavitha on Thursday launched a blistering attack on the BJP-led Central government, alleging a “deliberate conspiracy” to erase backward communities through a flawed caste census.

Addressing a round-table meeting convened by Telangana Jagruthi, Kavitha accused the Centre of reducing nearly 4,000 castes into a vague ‘Others’ category, calling it “data manipulation” and “institutional deception.” She asserted that a caste census without BC, OBC, MBC, EBC and sub-caste enumeration amounts to a betrayal of social justice. “First recognition, then reservation. If we are not counted, do we even exist?”, she asked, warning that faulty data would deny BC and OBC communities certificates for the next 10 years.

Kavitha said the census, postponed from 2021 due to COVID, had raised expectations after BJP promised full enumeration. “The moment the gazette was released, the fraud became clear”, she alleged, accusing the Centre of repeating the failures of the 2011 census while preparing to spend Rs.11,000 crore.

Calling data “dignity”, she said the Centre was attempting to steal both, and questioned the ‘silence’ of Congress and BRS, stating that their inaction was enabling injustice to backward classes.

She urged people to make caste census a “Central political issue” in upcoming municipal and ZPTC elections, warning, “Fight now or lose rights for a decade. Silence today is surrender.”

Reacting to the SIT summons to former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao in phone tapping case, Kavitha said transparency alone could deliver justice in the alleged phone tapping case. She accused the government of failing to conduct a serious probe despite being aware of the issue for two years.

“KCR Garu has been summoned by the SIT today, and I am certain he will appear before the investigating agency and present his side of the story”, she said and stressed that credibility of the investigation depends entirely on transparency and fairness. “Only a transparent and unbiased probe will ensure justice to those who were subjected to this unlawful surveillance. Anything less will raise serious questions about the intent”, she asserted.

She further emphasized that the people of Telangana deserve clarity and accountability in a case that strikes at the core of democracy, adding that truth will ultimately prevail if the investigation is conducted without political prejudice.
