
Hyderabad, Jan.28 (RAHNUMA): The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on Wednesday conducted an orientation programme for newly recruited Deputy Executive Engineers (Solid Waste Management) and Assistant Executive Engineers/Assistant Engineers (SWM) as part of the Swachh Bharat Mission – Urban (2.0).
The programme, held at the GHMC head office, focused on familiarising the officers with the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2024, recent amendments, and operational challenges in field-level implementation.
Additional Commissioner (Health and Sanitation) Raghu Prasad, who chaired the session, underlined the importance of strengthening sanitation systems and improving compliance with waste management protocols to enhance the city’s performance in Swachh Survekshan 2025-26.
Anuradha, officer on special duty to the control room, and the Superintending Engineer (SWM), GHMC, urged the newly inducted engineers to play a proactive role in improving on-ground sanitation and solid waste management practices.
Presentations were made on key components of waste management, including the 10th edition of the Swachh Survekshan 2025-26 toolkit, solid waste management practices, construction and demolition waste management, and compliance by bulk garbage generators.
The technical sessions were conducted by experts from the Swachh Bharat Mission Project Implementation Unit (PIU), GHMC, and representatives of M/s HiMSW Ltd. and M/s SSREC Ltd.
Participants were also provided with Information, Education and Communication (IEC) material for use in field-level activities by the Swachh Bharat Mission PIU.
The orientation programme, officials said, is part of GHMC’s efforts to strengthen institutional capacity and improve implementation of Swachh Bharat Mission – Urban (2.0) initiatives across the city.
