GHMC strengthens Hyderabad’s clean air action plan through CLMIC meet

Hyderabad, Dec.5 (RAHNUMA): The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) convened the City Level Monitoring and Implementation Committee (CLMIC) meeting under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) at the GHMC head office on Friday.

The meeting focused on developing a strengthened, data-driven action plan for effective management of pollution hotspots across Hyderabad.

Chaired by C.N. Raghu Prasad, Additional Commissioner, GHMC, the session brought together senior officials from Traffic Police of all three Commissionerates (Rachakonda, Cyberabad and Hyderabad), Telangana Pollution Control Board (TSPCB), TGSRTC, HMRL, Civil Supplies, Transport Department, TGIIC, EPTRI, Technical Consultants from CPCB (NCAP), and GHMC line departments.

The meeting aimed at gathering actionable inputs from committee members to enhance strategies under NCAP for reducing air pollution in identified hotspots across the city.

Officials reviewed hotspot-wise pollution data, progress of the city action plan, and micro-level strategies related to reduction of road dust, control of vehicular emissions, regulation of industrial pollution, strengthened management of Construction & Demolition (C&D) Waste Green cover expansion and real-time monitoring systems at major construction sites.

GHMC Additional Commissioner Raghu Prasad emphasised the need for coordinated departmental efforts and strict enforcement measures to ensure meaningful improvements in air quality.

Dr. Prasad Dasari and N. Jayasri, Environmental Scientists from TSPCB, presented detailed recommendations for strengthening pollution-control initiatives.

They stressed the need for prioritised interventions at major hotspots such as Punjagutta–Patancheru Corridor, Charminar–Nampally Heritage Zone, Hi-Tech City Transit Corridor, MGBS to Secunderabad Railway Station stretch.

They outlined both immediate and long-term steps to improve Hyderabad’s air quality through GHMC funds and NCAP support.
