
Hyderabad, July 20 (NSS): GHMC has taken steps to provide convenience and security with the main objective of development of junctions. At the same time, vehicle movements are being closely monitored to effectively prevent accidents by vehicles on the road by the largest urban local body of the State.
It is estimated that between 40 and 60 per cent of road accidents in most countries take place at the junctions. In this context, the GHMC’s main objective is to develop the junctions on a war-footing in Greater Hyderabad area for regularisation of vehicles and preventing accidents to pedestrians.
There is tremendous development in the cities and towns adjoining the GHMC. Major intersections are being developed here and there to avoid accidents for motorists coming from nearby cities. Against this backdrop, there is a need to develop existing junctions in line with the increasing number of vehicles. In this context, the GHMC is taking steps to develop 107 junctions at an estimated cost of Rs 7814.94 lakh to build the traffic junctions within the circle and prevent accidents. As part of the development of 107 junctions in GHMC, signal installation to prevent accidents, construction of footpaths to prevent pedestrian accidents and beautification works will be undertaken to provide a pleasant environment to the motorists.
So far, 31 junctions have been completed and 13 are in various development stages. 17 junctions are yet to be sanctioned by the administration. Work is yet to start at 16 junctions. 8 are in the tender process. Another 8 are to be acquired and 14 junctions are not feasible. Circle-wise priority junctions have been identified and developed by the corporation. It can be said due to the development of the junction, motorists will go to their destinations without any hassle and without any delay of time.
