GSHS conducts workshop on Test Papers

Hyderabad, Sept.12 (NSS): The GITAM School of Humanities & Social Sciences (GSHS) conducted one-day workshop titled ‘Developing Effective Test Papers: Bloom’s Taxonomy and Assessment Design’ on Thursday. The workshop aimed to equip our faculty members with the necessary skills to design test papers and assessments that are effective and aligned with the principles of Bloom’s Taxonomy, thereby enhancing the quality of learning and evaluation.

Prof. Lina Mukhopadhyay, Director of the AIELTA at EFL University, Hyderabad, was the chief guest. Prof. Mukhopadhyay delivered an insightful session on the critical aspects of content assessment for the classroom, addressing the issues and challenges educators face today. She highlighted the importance of applying revised Bloom’s Taxonomy and Cognition Hypothesis to develop effective content assessment tools.

In her hands-on session, Prof Mukhopadhyay guided participants through various assessment tools based on Bloom’s Taxonomy, focusing on different cognitive levels such as Remembering, Understanding, Applying, Analyzing, Evaluating, and Creating. She emphasized the significant role of teachers as assessors and the importance of fostering student engagement in the learning process. She encouraged educators to help learners develop critical skills by using assessment to promote behaviours such as assembling, generating, constructing, designing, and organizing information.

The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. G. Sunny Jose, Director, GSHS, who set the tone for the day and welcomed Prof. Mukhopadhyay. He urged faculty members to take advantage of the workshop, emphasizing the necessity of genuine engagement and self-assessment in their teaching practices.

The event was coordinated by Dr. Amit Kumar and Dr. Ruth Z Hauzel, Associate Professors in the Department of English and Other Languages. Together, they ensured the smooth execution of the workshop, which fostered a collaborative environment for faculty development.

Onam celebrated at GITAM

The Directorate of Student’s Life at GITAM Deemed to be University, Hyderabad, celebrated the vibrant and traditional festival of Onam on Thursday. The event embraced the essence of Onam, an annual harvest and cultural festival mainly celebrated in Kerala, with a day full of excitement, culture, and joy.

Students organized various activities, including traditional games in the central courtyard lawn and cultural performances in the Shivaji auditorium. The festivities were further enhanced with a beautifully decorated Pookalam (floral rangoli), energetic Chenda Melam (Kerala drum performance), and vibrant cultural displays. The celebration also featured a special Onam-themed lunch buffet with Payasam and other traditional Kerala dishes at the GITAM Café.
