Mumbai, June 3 (IANS) Actress Gulfam Khan Hussain shared her trick for learning long monologues and dialogues, revealing that she picked up this technique during her theatre days, and it has always worked for her.
Gulfam, who is currently seen in ‘Dhruv Tara – Samay Sadi Se Pare’, said: “I have a trick that I learned during my theatre days, read the lines without any emotions thrice, then with emotions. You will mostly get it. If it still does not happen, write the lines down, your memory registers writing more than reading.”
The actress added: “Also, try to get it right in one take. Not only dialogues, but heavy emotions are also easier if done in one take, sometimes your conviction lacks in later takes.”
Meanwhile, the actress said that playing negative characters is more versatile.
“Negative characters have layers, as we say more ‘masala’, there are shades of anger, negativity, frustration, cunning, etc. I enjoy my negative characters,” said Gulfam, who is known for her work in ‘Aladdin – Naam Toh Suna Hoga’.
Talking about the hate she endures from the audience when playing a negative character, she said: “Take it with a smile, I have instances where people have called and abused me… It only shows you were successful at portraying the character.”
Gulfam shared that she is one of those people who gets affected by the characters she plays.
“For instance, when I was playing ‘Nanno’ in ‘Naamkarann’, I got attached to the youngsters in real life too (and it still remains the same), and when I was doing Aladdin, I did all silly physical stunts on my own, so I used to come home drained… I enjoy both of these. They are good stresses,” she added.
