Habitual chain snatcher held in Naringi

Hyderabad, Sept.11 (NSS)CCS Rajendranagar Police have nabbed a habitual chain-snatcher and recovered one gold nuptial thread (Pusthela Thadu) and a Honda Activa 6g Scooty.

Police said on Wednesday morning, while conducting vehicle checking at Alkapur colony under Narsingi PS limits, the crime staff of Rajendranagar CCS with coordination of Narsingi crime staff, noticed that the accused, who was coming on his Honda Activa Scooty under suspicious manner stopped him and on questioning he started prevaricated replies, as such he was brought to PS. On interrogation, he admitted to have committed the offence. The accused was identified as Uppugunta Sagar of Lingampally and native of Miyapur, Hyderabad.

On August 17, at 17.15 hours, a complaint was received from Ganga Bhavani, aged 26 years, a resident of Puppalguda, Gandipet Mandal, Ranga Reddy District. She stated that on August 17, at 4.15 pm, she picked up her two children from school and was walking home. The accused riding an Activa bike and wearing a helmet, suddenly approached her from behind and snatched her Pusthela Thadu weighing three tolas from her neck and fled.

The accused, aged 24 years, resides in Gulmohar Park, Lingampally, Hyderabad and works as a private school van driver. Desperate for money, he decided to resort to illegal means. As part of his plan, on August 17, he went to Puppalaguda on his two-wheeler wearing a helmet and covering the number plate with a sticker to avoid identification. He noticed a woman walking home with her children and, taking advantage of her vulnerability, approached her from behind and snatched her gold Pusthela Thadu from her neck, and fled.

Earlier, in 2022, the accused had committed a similar offence under KPHB Police Station limits vide Crime No. 839/2022 U/Sec 392 IPC of PS KPHB PS of Cyberabad and was arrested by KPHB Police and sent to judicial custody. After completion of judicial custody, he was released on bail after 25 days. Despite his previous arrest, he committed a similar crime again within the limits of Narsingi Police Station on August 17.

The arrest was made under the supervision of K. Narsimha, IPS, DCP, Crimes, Cyberabad under the close monitoring of K. Shashank Reddy, ACP Crimes, N. Sanjay Kumar, Inspector, CCS Rajendranagar, A. Srinivas, DI of Narsingi PS and staff of CCS Rajendranagar.
