Hyderabad, Sept.23 (NSS): Former minister Harish Rao today lashed out at the Congress government and wondered as to how the ruling party leaders allowed the drying up of crops in three lakh acres of land in Khammam district, which gave nine MLAs to the ruling party. Though the Krishna river is full of water, all the crops are withering for want of water, he added.
Speaking to mediapersons at Telangana Bhavan on the drying up of crop fields in Khammam district due to the failure of the government, Harish Rao criticised the Congress government for allowing the drying up of crops in Khammam district and added that for 22 days, the breach occurred in a canal was not rectified so far. “The Congress government will dry up the fields of the farmers. The farmers in Paleru, Khammam, Vaira, Sattupalli and Madhira constituencies are laying siege to the NSP offices. The government is sleeping despite protest programs,” he alleged. He said despite the heavy rains this year, lakhs of acres of crops had dried up due to the inability of the Congress government.
“The BRS party demands ₹.25,000 per acre as financial assistance to the flood hit farmers. According to preliminary estimates, 60,000 acres of land was lost due to the flood damage in Sagar catchment areas and one lakh acres due to Congress party’s mismanagement. Now, even if the Congress government gives water, the crops are not in a position to reach the level of harvest,” he said.
Harish Rao said they would go to Khammam district and give courage to the farmers. “When we went to meet the flood victims, we were attacked. Power is never permanent. We have seen what happened in Andhra Pradesh due to the over enthusiasm of the police. Police officers should work in accordance with the laws and not the governments. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is doing high drama with Hydraa to divert the government’s failures,” Harish Rao alleged.
