HARISH RAO SLAMS CM OVER FREQUENT IAS, IPS TRANSFERS

Hyderabad, March 4 (RAHNUMA): BRS Legislature Party (BRSLP) deputy leader T. Harish Rao on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, alleging that frequent transfers of IAS and IPS officers were disrupting governance in Telangana.

Speaking to the media here, Harish Rao said that since the Congress government assumed office, the officials had been reshuffled repeatedly, with major changes carried out five times so far. He alleged that department heads were unable to function effectively, as their average tenure was less than eight months. Five officials had been transferred in the electricity department over the past two years, leading to “chaos and corruption”, he noted and pointed out that four district collectors had been changed in Rangareddy district alone.

Further, the BRS leader said frequent transfers in key departments requiring coordination with Delhi were causing losses to the state. “How can the governance run if officials are changed so frequently?” he asked, terming the transfers a ‘joke’.

He observed that it takes at least six months for a district collector to understand a district’s functioning, but several collectors were shifted within that period. Alleging that the morale of young officers was being damaged, he claimed that favourable postings were being given to select officers, while others were sidelined.

Rao also criticized the government for extending the services of retired officials, alleging that dozens of IAS and IPS officers had been granted extensions and the tenure of hundreds of engineers had been prolonged. He questioned the Congress leadership for opposing such extensions during the BRS regime but allegedly following the same practice now.

The BRS leader further alleged that tenders for the construction of Young India schools were being awarded at five percent higher rates and claimed there was widespread corruption in the engineering department due to retired officers holding key posts. He warned that he would soon disclose detailed information on the issue.
