Hyderabad, Aug.31 (NSS): Former minister Harish Rao visited Palamakula Gurukul Girls School in Rangareddy District on Saturday to speak directly with the students and understand the challenges they’re facing.
Harish Rao expressed his frustration, noting that even though young girls have been protesting in the streets, the government has remained silent. It’s beyond frustrating to see the Chief Minister ignoring such a serious issue that affects our children’s future, he said, adding that instead of focusing on what really matters like governing and addressing the needs of our people—the government seems more interested in attacking the Opposition.
Harish Rao was deeply concerned about the alarming situation in Gurukuls, where students are reportedly driven to take their own lives due to unbearable conditions. He questioned, How can the government stand by and let this happen? Where is the commitment to protecting these children? “Parents put their faith in the government when they enrolled their children in these schools, but that trust has been completely broken, he continued. The government has failed to provide a safe and supportive environment for these kids to learn.
Harish Rao criticized the Chief Minister, who is also the Education Minister, for failing to manage the education sector and address these urgent issues. It’s unacceptable that someone with such responsibility can neglect critical issues like this, he said. He was visibly moved by the students’ stories of fear and suffering, many of whom were in tears, scared of being mistreated by staff. “No child should be living in fear at school this needs to change,” Harish Rao emphasized. Students also complained about finding insects in their food, only receiving one pair of clothes, and not having access to textbooks.
The government talks about providing fine rice, but students are being served rice that’s crawling with insects this can’t go on, Harish Rao said firmly. He also pointed out the severe consequences of the Congress government’s neglect, which has led to 500 students being hospitalized and 38 deaths. The health risks these students are facing—like snake and rat bites—are just horrifying, he said and called for the immediate replacement of teachers at these Gurukuls and insisted that students be given proper, nutritious meals without delay. e highlighted that Minority Gurukuls haven’t received their mess bills since January, and basic expenses like electricity and food are not being covered.
The Chief Minister and the Education Department need to wake up and take decisive action now, Harish Rao urged. “We can’t ignore the fear and suffering of these students any longer. It’s time to act.
Former minister Sabitha Indra Reddy also criticized the government for abandoning Gurukuls and neglecting the Education Department. Even after repeated inquiries, the Chief Minister hasn’t responded, she noted. She urged the government to take these issues seriously and conduct a thorough review to prevent further neglect. Immediate action is crucial to restore confidence in our education system and protect these students’ futures.
