Hyderabad, Aug.3 (NSS): Former minister Harish Rao today wrote a letter to Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy and urged him to provide water to farmers. He said that reservoirs Annapurna (Anantagiri) reservoir, Ranganayaka Sagar, Mallanna Sagar and Konda Pochamma Sagar in Siddipet district had reached a point where they are completely depleted due to lack of water.
He said in August last year, the Ananthagiri reservoir had 3.32 tmc ft of water and added that currently it has 0.75 tmcft of water Ranganayaka Sagar has 0.67 tmc out of 2.38 tmcft, Mallanna Sagar has 8.5 tmc out of 18 tmc and Konda Pochamma Sagar has 4.5 tmc out of 10 tmc. “On the one hand, there is no water in the reservoirs and on the other hand, there is no rain and the farmers are worried now. Farmers are worried about whether to plant crops or not. Compared to the same time last year, the area under cultivation of crops in the districts has also come down. Therefore, on behalf of the farmers of the district, I request you to immediately issue instructions to the irrigation officials to put aside politics and pump water from Mid Maner to Annapurna Reservoir, Ranganayaka Sagar, Mallanna Sagar and Konda Pochamma Sagar, as well as take steps to release water through canals and supply water to ayacut,” he said.
