
Hyderabad, Sept 1( NSS): Heavy rains, triggered by depression in the South Bay of Bengal, have severely disrupted normal life across the Telangana State on Sunday.
Minister for Revenue Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy announced that nine people died across the Telangana State till 1 PM on September 1.
The State government put the entire administration on high alert and is taking relief measures in the rain hit areas. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka and other Ministers are constantly monitoring the situation in Telangana, giving the instructions to authoritie to save the people trapped in floods.
All the schools and colleges, both in the government and private sector, in Telangana will be closed on Monday.
Heavy rains were lashing several parts of Telangana, inundating low-lying areas, paralysing normal life, and throwing road and rail traffic out of gear. The Weather department has issued a red alert for 11 districts.
Widespread rains under the impact of depression in Bay of Bengal and monsoon have been lashing Hyderabad, surrounding districts, and other parts of the State since Saturday night. Some parts of the affected districts were facing flood threats.
A special control room has been set up at the State Secretariat to monitor the situation.
Meanwhile, heavy rains and waterlogging over the tracks at several locations along the South Central Railway (SCR) network have disrupted the train services. According to officials, as many as 80 trains have been fully cancelled, 5 trains were partially cancelled to avoid any further congestion on the Section. 49 trains have been diverted via alternate routes to avoid waiting in the affected Section.
The SCR official said that over the past 24 hours, there has been flooding and breaches in Kazipet to Vijayawada section and five trains in that section were stranded even as officials moved 15 trains via a diverted path.
